Lead Elder

I grew up in Hendricks County but was gone for about a decade, attending Cedarville University and then serving in my first pastorate, both in Ohio. I was thrilled with the opportunity to return in June 1997 with my wife Janna and two little girls, Rachael and Sara. Caleb came along a couple years later. God’s gracious leading has afforded me the privilege of being back home again in Indiana to raise my family while being near extended family and to grow in and with a spiritual family at Calvary Plainfield. I am so grateful!

I find great joy in the ministries of preaching and teaching as God gives me opportunity, leading public worship and prayer ministries, and discipling men for leadership.

I love spending time with my family, including traveling with Janna. We enjoy different destinations, but Florida is our default. I also love reading all kinds of books, but especially theology.

One of my favorite recent reads is Tim Chester’s Enjoying God: Experience the Power and Love of God in Everyday Life (The Good Book Company). One of the many encouraging quotes reads like this: “Do not complain that God never does anything dramatic in your life if you never attempt anything outside your comfort zone.”

Staff - Student Ministries

For better or for worse, I am the only staff member who wasn’t born a Hoosier. I grew up in Springfield, Ohio, where I first believed the gospel of Jesus Christ through the teaching of my loving parents and the faithful men and women of Southgate Baptist Church. I earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and digital media at Cedarville University, along with a Bible minor. I met my wife, Alyssa, there in 2011. We’ve been happily married since 2015, and have two daughters: Vera and Corinne.

After a four-year stint in video production at my home church, I joined the staff at Calvary in 2019 as the Student Director. Though I still enjoy media production, my passion is helping others see God’s greatness through His word, the Bible. God used my home church’s youth group to draw me closer to Him, because it turned to the Bible at every occasion to find answers to life’s questions. I pray God helps Student Ministries at Calvary to do the same thing!

I like most sports, but nothing compares to baseball. I just don’t have the emotional energy to care about football and basketball after watching the Reds lose every year…so my knowledge of other sports is pretty pedestrian. I acquired a love for board games after college, since none of my friends played sports. I’m up for just about any long, involved, highly competitive board game.

I pray that most of all, my love is for God and His word. Most of my personal time has been in the Gospel of John recently. I want to learn to see how “the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (1:17).
