Update #12

Sabbatical

Hi guys,

I'm finally back to the normal rhythm of a Saturday sabbatical update, and yet there is so much about this communication with you that is not normal. I think I understand better Paul's words to the church at Rome:

"I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you.... I mention you always in my prayers.... For I long to see you that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you--that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine."

 Romans 1:8-12

I'm hoping to see some of you this afternoon at our combined covenant group fellowship time, and then again on the 14th, and then the real normal on the 21st.

I did finish Andrew Wilson's book Incomparable as I planned. There is certainly much in the book to be commended. It is that kind of book that answers Tozer's assertion (with which I wholeheartedly agree) that what we think of when think about God is the most important thing about us (my paraphrase). So, especially for voracious readers, this would be a good book to add to your reading list. Though I'd probably say to those who feel they don't have much time to read that there are other books of this same kind that I'd recommend more highly, like Michael Reeves' Delighting in the Trinity, which I read and reviewed earlier in my sabbatical.

I love you and miss you all!
