Prayer & Preparation for June 11th, 2023

This Lord's Day

Hey church,

Here are some details about this week's service:

Songs: "Behold Our God," "Crown Him (Majesty)," "Holy Spirit (Living Breath of God)," "O Church of Christ Invincible," and "Speak, O Lord"

Sermon text: Haggai 1:12-15

Sermon title: Immanuel

Cross-references: Josh. 1:8-9; Isa. 66:1-2; Matt. 28:18-20; Phil. 2:12-13; Heb. 10:31; 12:28-29

Please pray that 2 Corinthians 4:13-15 would be true of me as I preach this Lord's Day:

Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, 'I believed and so I spoke,' we also believe , and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 4:13-15 ESV

And please pray that 1 Thessalonians 2:13-14a will be true of you and all hearers of the preaching of his Word this Lord's Day:

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. For you, brothers [and sisters] became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus

1 Thessalonians 2:13-14a ESV

Besides these Bible passages, here are some other thoughts that may inform our prayers:

"Let me ask those sitting in the pew, do you come to the word expectant each week, prepared in heart and mind to hear a great word from our great God? Do you pray for your own soul that it might be fresh kindling for the word? And do you pray for your pastor that he might bring fire from heaven Sunday by Sunday?"

Kevin DeYoung

"Many times you will say, 'Come, let us go hear a man preach.' Oh no, let us go hear Christ preach, for as it concerns the ministers of God that they preach not themselves, but that Christ should preach in them, so it concerns you that you do not come to hear this man or that man, but to come to hear Jesus Christ."

Jeremiah Burroughs

"...we must raise up constant prayer for every last one of our meetings, that they will be real meetings with God, resulting in changed lives. The whole point of the history of redemption is that when Immanuel is present, transforming deeds of love follow. Things human are turned upside down. When God is truly present in a worship service, we can be sure that the Word of God will be sanctifying believers and converting non-Christians."
