This Lord's Day

Hey church,

“Psalm 62 (My Soul Finds Rest in God Alone),” and “His Mercy Is More”

Sermon text: 1 John 2:12-14

Sermon title: “Who Is in the Church?”

Scriptural cross-references: Psalm 32:1-2; 102:25-28; Matthew 6:12; Romans 8:15; Ephesians
6:10; 1 Thessalonians 5:14; 1 Timothy 4:15; 2 Peter 3:18

Relevant quotes:

Whoever really trusts the Lord to forgive us our sins will also trust the Lord when he forbids us to
sin.

“You sum up the whole of New Testament teaching in a single phrase, if you speak of it as a
revelation of the Fatherhood of the holy Creator. In the same way, you sum up the whole of New
Testament religion if you describe it as the knowledge of God as one’s holy Father. If you want
to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the
thought of being God’s child and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that
prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he
does not understand Christianity at all…Adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel offers.”

As you pray and prepare for our time in fellowship and prayer and the Word this Lord’s Day, I
also want to remind you that this is the week when voting-aged members will determine
whether we add Jordan Hellwig and James Humphrey to our elder team. I will be hanging out
around the family room and welcome center before covenant groups, between services, and
after the worship service. I’ll distribute “ballots” for you to fill out and leave in a basket in the
family room. In the afternoon, I’ll communicate the results to Jordan and James, and then to
the rest of the congregation via an email. Please pray for the Lord’s leading in this matter as
you pray for the rest of our day together.
